Did you know that Ankara is of European origin? Ankara
was formerly called Dutch wax and it originated in Netherlands. It was made for
the Indonesian market but quickly became more popular here in west Africa
(smirk “our over sabi too much sha”).
Recognizing this unique market opportunity, the Dutch
started producing more of this fabric for the west African market. These days,
there are many brands such as Vlisco and the likes of it. These brands produce
some of the finest prints that are used today in the Nigerian fashion industry.
Some of the ways you can pull off the Ankara
look to give you that ever-Green
Finesse touch include;
Going Mono: This is wearing a single ankara pattern. There are no other patterns or fabrics mixed with this and could be thought out to have a boring look. But with one or two twists to this, trust me, you can rock a sole ankara pattern.
Multiple Patterns: This is the opposite of going mono. if it isn't a single patterned wear, then you're pulling off a multiple patterned dress.
You can also blend ankara with other fabrics. There are lots of fabrics out there, some of which i mentioned in my previous post. From Organza to Neoprene- Its all about how you choose to play around with fabric-mix and end up with mind blowing results.
The Bridal Glam: Every lady wants the bridal dress for her big day to be the crème de la crème. And honey, yes you can. You could do that by mixing the
Ankara flavour with your western bridal dress.
